Creatinine Clearance (CrCl) Calculator

This Creatinine Clearance (CrCl) calculator allows you to calculate the creatinine clearance rate using the Cockcroft-Gault Equation, helping you estimate kidney function.

Creatinine Clearance (CrCl) Calculator

 Allows You to Calculate:

  1. Creatinine Clearance (mL/min)

    • Estimates renal function using the Cockcroft-Gault equation, which accounts for age, weight, sex, and serum creatinine.
  2. Adjusted CrCl (mL/min)

    • Provides an adjusted clearance estimate using Ideal Body Weight (IBW) or Adjusted Body Weight (ABW) for underweight or overweight patients.
  3. Serum Creatinine Conversion

    • Converts between different units of serum creatinine (mg/dL and µmol/L) for ease of use.
IV Flow Rate Formula

Creatinine Clearance (CrCl) Calculator - Cockcroft-Gault Equation

This formula calculates the creatinine clearance rate, which helps assess kidney function and determine drug dosing for patients with renal impairments.

Creatinine Clearance Formula (Cockcroft-Gault Equation)

For Males:

CrCl (mL/min) =

( (140 - Age) × Weight (kg) ) ÷ ( 72 × Serum Creatinine (mg/dL) )

For Females:

CrCl (mL/min) =

( (140 - Age) × Weight (kg) ) ÷ ( 72 × Serum Creatinine (mg/dL) ) × 0.85

Example Calculation:

Example: A 60-year-old female patient, weighing 65 kg, with a serum creatinine level of 1.1 mg/dL.

  • Age: 60 years
  • Weight: 65 kg
  • Serum Creatinine: 1.1 mg/dL

Solution:

CrCl =

((140 - 60) * 65) / (72 * 1.1) * 0.85 = 56.68 mL/min

Answer: Creatinine Clearance = 56.68 mL/min

Note: Use the appropriate body weight adjustments (IBW or ABW) for patients with abnormal BMI.

General Tips

General Tips for Using the CrCl Calculator

  • Double-check values: Ensure the values entered for age, weight, and serum creatinine are accurate.
  • Choose the correct unit: Verify whether serum creatinine is measured in mg/dL or µmol/L to avoid calculation errors.
  • Use adjusted body weight: In cases where the patient is underweight or obese, use the adjusted weight formula for more accurate renal function estimates.
  • Consult clinical guidelines: Always interpret results within the context of clinical guidelines and medical recommendations.
  • Renal dosing: Adjust medications based on CrCl values, especially for drugs eliminated via the kidneys.

How to Use the Creatinine Clearance (CrCl) Calculator

  1. Enter Patient Details:

    • Age: Input the patient’s age in years.
    • Sex: Choose Male or Female, as CrCl calculations differ based on sex.
    • Weight: Input the patient’s weight in either kilograms (kg) or pounds (lb).
    • Serum Creatinine: Input serum creatinine level in either mg/dL or µmol/L.
    • Height (Optional): Provide the patient’s height if using Ideal Body Weight (IBW) or Adjusted Body Weight (ABW).
  2. Select Unit Conversion:

    • Use the dropdowns to choose between weight units (kg/lb) and serum creatinine units (mg/dL/µmol/L).
  3. Click Calculate to receive:

    • Creatinine Clearance (CrCl) in mL/min.
    • If necessary, an adjusted CrCl using Ideal Body Weight or Adjusted Body Weight for more precise drug dosing.
  4. Click Reset to clear the fields and start a new calculation.
